The
Steenberg Country Hotel is situated on the Cape's oldest wine

Steenberg is also an ideal starting point for a visit to some
of the Cape's other attractions. The warm waters and white sands
beaches of False Bay and the spectacular views of Chapman's
Peak are a few minutes away, a drive to Cape Point Nature Reserve
takes only 45 minutes, the centre of cosmopolitan CapeTown,
South Africa's mother city, is less than half an hour.

Wine
Wine-making has been a tradition at Steenberg since 1695. The
guests can journey through the entire process of wine-making
from the vineyards; visiting the wine producing and storing
areas, then tasting the award-winning wines. Steenberg vineyards
produces a variety of grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillion, Cabernet Franc, Pinot
Noir, Shiraz, Nebbiolo and Tale Grapes.
Vineyards surround a state of the art wine cellar with cultivars
selected to suit the chemical nature of the soils, microclimate
and altitude of the slopes of Steenberg. Vines planted include
Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillon,
Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Nebbiolo and Table Grapes.
Golf
The Steenberg Country Hotel has its own exclusive and private
18-hole championship golf course which meanders leisurely through
the Steenberg Vineyards, Pine Forest and gentle waterways. The
course has some of the best greens on the African continent.
The golf course features four distinct areas: Wetlands, Parklands,
The Cape Flats and Fynbos. With five different tees, the course
can be enjoyed by all, from championship to junior level. Many
golfers envy the superb condition of this soft spike course
and it is widely renowned for having the best greens in CapeTown.
There are also a number of practice areas, including a driving
range, chipping area with sand traps and a large putting green.

designed and was responsable for the building of the golf course..

Swimming
Pool & Treatments
Steeberg has two standard outdoor swimming pools. A small exercise
room offers equipment for most gym activities and a steamroom
is available to sooth your body and soul after a hard workout.
Therapists offer a wide range of treatments, such as reflexology,
aromatherapy, reiki, beauty treatments and polarity.
Weddings & Conferences
The Steenberg's serene and cozy surrounds are perfect for small
meetings, conferences, weddings and retreats. The theatre accomodates
40 people in various configurations . Functions are held in
the reading room or the ladies bar & dance floor.

The accomodation
at the Steenberg Country Hotel consists of three Luxurious Houses.
A haven of serenity awaits the guest with a choice of twenty-four
elegant, air-conditioned rooms located in the original Manor
House, Jonkershuis and the restored Barn. Each en-suite room
is tastefully furnished; some with exquisite antiques and all
rooms overlook the vineyards or manicured gardens.
The Restored Barn is the largest
house containing 2 Junior Suites, 6 Luxury Rooms and 1 family
room, decorated in light airy themes, with a shared central
lounge to relax and meet other guests.
The Manor House, originaly a farmhouse,
dates back to 1682 and is decorated with beautiful antiques
and ornaments reminiscent of the 17th and 18th Century. The
Manor Suite, 2 Junior Suites, 2 Luxury Rooms and 2 lounges are
located inside this house.
The Manor Suite is decorated
with Cape-Colonial antique furniture and a traditional 4-poster
bed. Attached to the Manor House we have a Garden Suite consisting
of 2 bedrooms, ideal for families.
The Jonker's Huis or Jonkershuis,
translated from Afrikaans means "young man's house"
and was originally the home of the eldest son after he married.
This house holds 4 Junior Suites and 5 Luxury Rooms, all individually
decorated with a shared central lounge complete with fireplace.
The Steenberg Country Hotel will accept children under 12 years
of age only by proir arrangement with the management. The hotel
has a strict limit of only two persons per room.

Catharina Ustings, the first
owner of Steenberg, lives on through the nuances of Catharina's.
Experience the captivation of flavours - tempestuous,
exotic, contemporary & delectable. A fresh & innovated
blend of classical cuisine amidst ageless splendour. Special
events occur throughout the year.
Rich dark wood, antique carpets, oak furnishings and display
dressers filled with original Spode crockery create a
warm and welcoming atmosphere. Being an old wine cellar,
cosy dining alcoves have been created in the original
vats. Both the main dining area and the cigar lounge feature
fireplaces.
A section of the original wine storage areas have been
turned into small wine cellars, keeping the more than
80 different wines on offer at optimum temperatures. These
mini cellars form part of the restaurant and can be viewed
whilst dining, giving guests the feeling of dining in
a cellar. The breakfast conservatory offers all weather
dining in the intimate surroundings of sun dappled vineyards
and gardens. Full a la carte and Continental breakfast
menus available.
The cigar lounge offers an idea venue for a pre-dinner
aperitif or a cigar and cognac after a perfect meal.
The Cape-continental style cuisine features starters such
as Ostrich Carpaccio, Oven-baked mushrooms with Camembert
cheese and a red onion marmalade, and a Seafood wok with
tempura vegetables and seafood, served with a chilli-pawpaw
dip. Specialities are Beef Carpaccio, Kudu Venison and
Steenberg Lamb Shank.
Main dishes, again with emphasis on freshness, include
Braised lamb shank with root vegetables and a rich portwine
sauce and Panfried red roman with grilled vegetables and
a lime-butter sauce. Desserts are a mix of traditional
dishes and current delicacies such as Pumpkin meringue
pie and Cape brandy pudding.
Guests can also enjoy dining al fresco during the day
under large canopied umbrellas overlooking the natural
splendour of the estate. Reservations are required for
the Steenberg Restaurant.
