Kurland is situated in green pastures in the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains on the family estate of Baroness Diane Behr. Its grand Cape Dutch buildings are tastefully furnished with antiques and feature original oil paintings. Tradition meets technology in the well-stocked library, which offers Internet and e-mail facilities.

Spend a day at the Polo Pavilion - complete with restaurant, bar and children’s playroom where you can watch players of international standing compete. Join the action with the assistance of Kurland’s resident polo professionals - the estate’s winding network of roads through the forests and pastures are ideal for leisure riding. Or enjoy a treatment at the estate’s health spa.

Children of all ages are welcome at Kurland. Tennis, boating, horse-riding, cycling, a games room and a specially constructed swimming pool will keep them entertained. Trained nannies are available.

Relax into the pastoral mood of Kurland in a comfortable chair on the spacious, shaded verandah, or stretch out on a recliner by the palm fringed, sparkling pool. A full bar service with snacks is available.

Kurland's modern health spa includes a fully equipped gymnasium, sauna, steam bath and plunge pool. Beauty treatments are available on request and a masseuse is available for those who want a massage.

Tennis and horse riding and in season polo matches are also part of the daily activities as are visits to the fabulous sandy beaches nearby and walks through the vast estate and over lush polo fields.

Children of all ages are welcome at Kurland, being well catered for with tennis, boating, horse and cycle-riding, a games room and their specially constructed swimming pool. Trained nannies are available, if required.

Polo at Kurland
Kurland is a 700 ha estate consisting of a small luxury hotel and a polo complex.

The polo complex comprises four boarded fields, a 50m x 100m polo arena, fully equipped stables and veterinary clinic, and a one kilometer sand exercise track and paddocks for up to 300 horses. Experienced grooms care for the horses and a vet and farrier are permanently on standby.

The large white-roofed Polo Pavilion with a restaurant, bar and children's playroom a restaurant and bar as well as changeroom facilities caters to the well being of players and spectators alike.

Other facilities include a wooden horse with specially mounted audio-visual equipment to analyse one's polo swing. Individual professional polo tuition is available from resident 4 goal professionals George Morgan, Matt Pohl and Richard Pohl.

Professionally trained ponies are provided to meet the needs of any level of player. Ponies are also for sale, on request. Players should come equipped with their own helmets, mallets, boots and polo clothing. Mallets may also be purchased at The Kurland Shop.

Kurland also has an extensive network of soft roads through forests and pastures for leisure riding.

Tarriffs Personal tuition consists of half an hour of wooden horse tuition under video surveillance and half an hour of stick and ball tuition on the field - R750 per person per hour. Full day tuition consists of the aforementioned as well as a 4 chukka game in the afternoon - R1 900 per person per day.

For groups of not more than 4 players, R1 900 per person included half an hour of video tuition on the wooden horse followed by half an hour of sticking and balling and an afternoon 4 chukka game. Larger groups of a maximum of 20 people are at R12 500 per day for sessions on the wooden horse and sticking and balling. 10 Km from Plettenberg Bay on N2 near The Crags.

Kurland is situated east of Plettenberg Bay along the Tsitsikamma Toll Road towards Storms River, on South Africa’s Garden Route.
 Kurland - Rooms
Kurland has twelve tastefully decorated and spacious rooms - designed to cater for the guests every comfort with large spaces, comfortable sofas and embossed linen on the beds.

Ceiling fans ensure that guests are kept cool in the hot summers and large fireplaces can be used in the winter months. The spacious bathrooms are equipped with heated towel rails and underfloor heating.

The rooms are individually styled and display some enviable objects d'art, antique furniture and original oil paintings.

For the convenience of guests all rooms have telephones, satellite television and mini bars. Eight of the rooms have private plunge pools.

Ten of the bedrooms have loft rooms especially designed for children.

Simple, tasty cuisine is served at breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room or in the adjacent courtyard.

You can also dine at one of the many fine restaurants in Plettenberg Bay.
