Construction on Kwa Maritane already commenced centuries ago. An ancient alkaline volcano fashioned the very hills that Kwa Maritane stands on today.

Hence it's name, which literally means "Place of the Rock". From here, you can look out over the infinite plains adjacent to the Pilansberg National Park - an area rich in wildlife and hosting around 365 species of birds.

Perhaps it's these ideal natural surroundings that won us the "Best Game Lodge" Award at the 1998 and 2001 Conference & Exhibition Venue Awards. Or maybe it's just that we offer distinctive service in every way.

Nearby Attractions

The two biggest nearby attractions are such antitheses of each other, it's difficult to make a decision as to what to do first. There is the tranquillity of the Pilansberg National Park, offering game walks and drives.
There is so much to do at neighbouring Sun City, you might need to extend you stay to experience it all:
Some of the facilities on offer include golf, tennis, squash, ten pin bowling, horse riding, the crocodile farm, aviary, casinos, live entertainment venues as well as theatre and movies.

Directions from Fourways, Sandton:

Travel north along William Nicol Drive to the four-way intersection with Witkoppen Road.
Turn left into Witkoppen road towards Lanseria/Roodepoort.
Turn right at the intersection with Hans Strijdom Extension on the road towards Broederstroom and Lanseria.
Cross over the Muldersdrift/Diepsloot Road and continue with the R512 towards Broederstroom and Lanseria.
Cross the bridge over the R28 Krugersdorp/Pretoria highway, pass the Lanseria turnoff and continue straight ahead.
At the T-junction turn left on the R512 to Magaliesberg.
Continue on this road until you see the Sun City signboard on your left. Turn right on the R512 to Brits and cross the bridge over Hartebeespoort Dam.
At the T-junction turn right on the R512 to Brits. Follow directional signs.
Continue to the four-way stop and turn left on the R512/27 for Brits/Rustenburg.
Pass the first Brits turnoff. At the signpost R27 Rustenburg/Brits turn right.
On the bridge turn left towards Rustenburg.
Continue till you get to the slipway to the left. Take the slipway and continue on the new N4 highway.
A signboard on the left side of the road indicates Pilansberg to the left on route 91. Exit left off the highway. At the
T-junction turn right and continue on this road to Sun City.
At the Kwa Maritane signboard turn right. Follow the road until you see the Kwa Maritane sign on your left; this will lead you to the"Place of the Rock"

Amenmities and Services
At Kwa Maritane you can get the sense of being far away from it all and yet be minutes away from civilisation. Our shuttle service will transport you from the airport or to Sun City for a small charge in no time.
Sun City also has two world class golf courses, designed by South Africa's famous Gary Player. One of the golf courses at the Sun City Hotel often plays host to professional tournaments and is in impeccable shape all year round.

Do a brief one-hour bird and tree identification trail around the lodge or opt for the more extensive two-hour walk that takes you deeper into the park and into more detail.

Game Drives
The focal point of the sunrise and afternoon game drives is game and bird identification.
From September to March, we also offer a more leisurely sundowner drive, with sundowners and game viewing by spotlight.
Make a whole evening of it with an afternoon drive combined with a bush braai at our Boma.
During the summer months of September to April, you enjoy the thrill of a nightlife encounter on our special night drives.
And if you'd prefer to stay in, you can always catch live wildlife on the Africam facility in your bedroom.
Then there is also the unique experience of a 130 metre underground tunnel leading to the Hide. The perfect vantage point for an intimate look into the wild, without being detected yourself.
