Hermanus
Golf Course
Hermanus Golf Course has become one of the most popular
golf courses in the Western Cape and is rated by many
golfers as a 'must-play' course. This is because Hermanus
itself is a popular tourist destination and because the
golf course offers golfers of all levels a unique 18-hole
golfing experience.
The Hermanus Golf Course is close enough to the coast
to be termed a links course but has a very definite parklands
feel to it. The Hermanus pine trees give new meaning to
the term tree-lined fairways presenting a new kind of
hazard at each hole. The bunkers are varied and plentiful.
During the months of July to November, whales can be
viewed off the coast a highlight of this region.
Besides the charm of the surroundings and the resident
troop of baboons who regularly romp across the fairy flat
fairways this course also presents a good test of ones
golfing skills. The sixth hole is probably one of the
toughest holes in the Cape. It has a suit and out-of-bounds
on the right and trees to the left of this narrow fairway,
demanding accuracy into the wind. The green slopes uphill
from front to back with a water hazard looming close by
on the right.
Watch out for the par-four 16th fairway bunker positioned
on the right of an uphill dogleg. The green is elevated
and slopes slightly. The 5th is another interest hole
where you might encounter the baboons that frequent
the area. The only hole with a real water hazard is
the signature par-four 6th.
