only Jack Nicklaus designed course in Africa, Pecanwood
Golf and Country Club is a golf estate which is situated
on the southern shore of the Hartebeesport Dam with the
Magaliesberg Mountains in the background.

| The
showpiece course is the 6 386-metre par-72 Randpark layout
which was chosen to host the 1995 Philips South African
Open, won by Retief Goosen. Right next door is leafy Windsor,
a much-loved shorter course of 6 171 metres, not as demanding
as its neighbour and regarded as fun to play by the members.

| The
two 18 hole layouts at ‘Royal’ are among the
best courses in Johannesburg. Royal was built in 1933
and the championship East layout has been frequent host
to the South African Open. They are both long courses
and at first glance an intimidating prospect for most
visitors until you remember that at Johannesburg’s
high altitude the ball travels 10% further. The courses
have a tree lined parkland layout with gentle undulations
rather than abrupt slopes. |
