Pecanwood
Golf Course
Pecanwood Golf and Country Club is a golf estate which
is situated on the southern shore of the Hartebeesport
Dam with the Magaliesberg Mountains in the background.
The course is outstanding, both from its setting and for
its design and layout. Whatever your standard of golf,
there is a way round to suit you. The fairways are grassed
with Kikuyu from tee to green while the greens themselves
are the first to be planted in South Africa in Crenshaw
bent grass. Due to the extremely resilient nature of this
grass, capable of withstanding the combined effects of
heat and heavy traffic, they can always be cut low and
kept fast.
Course
The Pecanwood Golf course is very long and exceptionally
flat. The resilient Crenshaw bent greens - a first in
South Africa - are fast and true. And the wide kikuyu
grassed fairways make for forgiving scores, if you dont
reach one of the hundreds of bunkers. A characteristic
of any Jack Nicklaus design are the vast amount of bunkers!
Pecanwood boast the most bunkers of any course in the
country, totaling 5 hectors! So stay out of the bunkers
to post a decent score. The water hazards come into play
on 9 of the 18 holes and also watch out for the many large
indigenous trees.
The signature thirteenth, unlucky for some, is particularly
interesting and beautiful. You play around the lake
to a green that juts out onto water surrounded by shrubs,
bunkers on both sides and water.
