Hans
Merensky Golf Course
Greet the African dawn on the manicured fairways of our
challenging 18 Hole, Par 72 Championship golf course,
where crocodile and hippo add spice to the normal "hazards"
of a good game of golf. Wild game including elephant,
lion, giraffe and a wide variety of antelope and bird
life are often seen on the golf course & in the surrounds.
The legendary Bob Grimsdell designed this unique course,
which extends over a vast area of indigenous bush, interspersed
with tranquil pools and velvet greens. The famous Kruger
National Park, one of Africa's largest game reserves,
stretches along the entire length of the Estate's eastern
boundary.
An unusual benefit to the enjoyment of a round - The land
on which the course is built once formed part of the Park
and magnificent bushveld trees line the fairways and form
backdrops to the holes, giving the impression that the
course is far older than its 30 years. From the moment
one enters the club grounds, one realises that this is
a uniquely African experience - monkeys leap above the
enormous trees near the clubhouse, which is said to have
the biggest thatched roof in the country.
The course is truly a revelation. It has hosted many
high-profile professional and amateur tournaments, a
measure of its widely acknowledged quality. There is
not a single weak hole, but from the forward trees,
the novice is sure to thoroughly enjoy the round. It
is difficult to single out specific holes on so fine
a layout, but the four par fives are all excellent,
particularly the 16 th, were a pulled or hooked drive
could well land in the Park. The par three 8th and 17th
holes, both over water to well-bunkered greens, are
also exceptional.
Location
The golf course is situated in Phalaborwa alongside the
Kruger Park.
