Designed by Tom Weiskopf, the layout is a subtle blend of
the classic and contemporary and is complemented by its unspoilt
sub-tropical coastal surroundings. The layout includes both
an open "links-like" feel on the opening holes,
with some of the last holes sweeping through forest and across
wetlands, giving off a "coastal parkland" feel.
It is 6524 metres and a par 72 course. Golf carts are compulsory.
At Zimbali Lodge, enjoy a game of tennis; splash in the pool;
be pampered in the beauty salon or browse through the logo
shop. The Zimbali Forest Estate is nature's own wilderness
and home to a variety of wildlife.
DAY 7
Play golf this morning at the famous Durban Country Club.
Length: 6104 m; Par 72. A mere 35 minute drive from Zimbali
Lodge, this platinum rated golf course is situated north of
the city centre with views over the Indian ocean. Its pedigree
is unmatched: it has hosted more SA Open Championships than
any other courses and is the only course to routinely appear
in various ranking of the world's top 100. Durban CC is very
compact with the premium being on accuracy. Dense tropical
scrub lines the fairways as well as the severely undulating,
dunelike terrain which serves to seclude the holes offering
the golfer tranquility. The course offers golf year round
with the winter months being best. Short "character"
par 4's are offset by more demanding two-shotters. The par-5
3rd hole is among the finest worldwide.
DAY 8
Play golf this morning at Prince's Grant Golf Estate.
Designed by Peter Matkovich in 1994, this 5804 m / par 72
course is exhilarating to play and unrivalled in its sea views
and sheer beauty of the land. The challenges on the layout
match its aesthetic. Many holes have linksland features -
notable in the mounding, the fairway plateaus and the large
greens. Others have parkland characteristics - particularly
as regards the creative use of water. Many of the holes will
linger in the imagination, whilst it is the crescendo of the
closing holes which will live on after the experience of playing
them.
Check out of Zimbali Lodge and transfer yourselves to the
Midlands. Here you will be staying at Hartford House for 3
nights on a B&B basis.
Aptly described as the "jeweled buckle of the KwaZulu-Natal
Midlands" (Cosmopolitan), the superbly restored Hartford
House is one of the country's finest lodges. This is a precious
world of sun-drenched valleys, galloping horses, golden daffodils
and caroling birds - an inspiration for the areas art and
craft studios. Here the emphasis is on refinement and comfort.
Steeped in history, this destination is of enchanting gardens,
rippling waters, rising trout, lingering candle-lit dinners,
fireside reminiscing and heavenly rest!

Nestling in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, Sakabula Country Estate
is a unique combination of agricultural smallholdings and
a golfing estate. It is easily accessible and came into being
after 12 lush farms were amalgamated. The par 73 layout is
an interesting combination of holes. A good quality country
course with stunning views of the Drakensberg mountains, the
water features and stands of trees demand one's full attention
while playing.
The Hartford House award-winning restaurant serves sumptuous
