DAY 1
On arrival at Durban International Airport you will be met
and transferred to the luxurious Ballito Manor where you will
be staying for 4 nights on a Bed and Breakfast basis. Your
hired car will be delivered to the hotel on your arrival.
Ballito Manor is situated in the heart of the Dolphin Coast
with direct access to the golden beaches of the Indian Ocean.
Ballito Manor is a personalized boutique hotel which offers
privacy, style and a wide variety of entertainment - including
a health spa; a billiard room; a well stocked library; swimming
pool and squash court.
DAY 2
Play golf this morning at the prestigious Zimbali Golf Club.
Designed by Tom Weiskopf, the layout is a subtle blend of
the classic and contemporary and is complemented by its unspoilt
sub-tropical coastal surroundings. The layout includes both
an open "links-like" feel on the opening holes,
with some of the last holes sweeping through forest and across
wetlands, giving off a "coastal parkland" feel.
It is 6524 metres and a par 72 course. Golf carts are compulsory.
DAY 3
Play golf this morning at Mount Edgecombe Golf Estate.
Situated 20 km north of Durban, just inland from Umhlanga
Rocks, this golfing estate boasts two championship courses.
The first and older course, has established credentials -
having hosted several pro tournaments. The ambience remains
old and stately with the fairways sweeping between densely
massed pines and tall gum trees. The greens are heavily featured
and excellent, with "Country Club" grass surfaces.
5977 m / Par 71.
DAY 4
Play golf this morning at Prince's Grant Golf Estate.
Designed by Peter Matkovich in 1994, this 5804 m / par 72
course is exhilarating to play and unrivalled in its sea views
and sheer beauty of the land. The challenges on the layout
match its aesthetic. Many holes have linksland features -
notable in the mounding, the fairway plateaus and the large
greens. Others have parkland characteristics - particularly
as regards the creative use of water. Many of the holes will
linger in the imagination, whilst it is the crescendo of the
closing holes which will live on after the experience of playing
them.
DAY 5
Check out of The Ballito Manor and transfer yourselves to
the Magaliesburg where you will be staying for 3 nights in
the Thatchstone Village at Mount Grace on a B & B basis.
A mere hour from Johannesburg (± 100 km from Johannesburg
Airport) lies this haven of tranquility and beauty - Mount
Grace - set in 10 acres of exquisite garden surrounded by
the Magaliesburg Mountains. Mount Grace's water features,
bird life, indigenous bush and English country gardens all
lend to a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.
After checking in, enjoy a sundowner at Hartley's Bar. Dinner
can be taken at either The Stoep - an a la carte restaurant
with an intimate, romantic atmosphere or The Copperfield Grill
which offers generous country buffets. (Breakfast is served
at The Copperfield).
DAY 6
Play golf this morning at Pecanwood Golf Estate.
Situated on the banks of the Hartebeespoort Dam, some 40 minutes
from Sandton, it is one of Jack Nicklaus's signature courses.
The course layout has generously wide, "collecting"
fairways with large multi-featured greens, several water hazards,
severe bunkers and slick, demanding putting surfaces. 6995m
in length and par 72, precise positional play and lines of
attack are required if pars and birdies are to be had.
Enjoy a complimentary afternoon tea of tea, coffee and pastries
at the Café Complet. A light lunch can be served to
you on the veranda or in the garden or at the Spa Café.
DAY 7
There is plenty to do at Mount Grace: billiards room; extensive
library; outdoor heated pool; mountain bikes; bowls; croquet;
tennis; horse riding; bird watching; country walks; trout
and bass fishing; or "War and Wilderness excursions".
It also houses a Hydro Spa which offers various treatments
and has a heated pool, flotation pool and natural rock pool.
DAY 8
Check out of Mount Grace and transfer yourselves to the Sun
City Resort Complex in the North-West Province. Here you will
be staying at either The Cascades or Sun City Hotel for 3
nights on a B&B basis. Situated 180 km north-west of Johannesburg.
DAY 9
Play golf today at The Lost City Country Club.
Length: 6983 m; par 72. Also designed by Gary Player with
a theme that is of an African Adventure in the Indiana Jones
style. It abounds with surprises - one being a short hole
(not telling which one) which is played over a crocodile infested
pit to a green shaped like the continent of Africa! The course
is aesthetically pleasing and can distract one from the excellence
of the layout which balances birdie opportunities with the
sternest of examination papers. With many water hazards these
plush playing corridors seem oasis-like as they thread their
way through the arid African bushveld.
DAY 10
Play golf today at the The Gary Player Country Club.
Length: 7033m; Par 72. Gary Player designed this superb modern
resort course which was constructed some 20 years ago, and
whose fame has been spread worldwide by the Nedbank Golf Challenge
played annually in December. The course is immaculately presented
with wide kikuyu fairways and bent grass greens contrasting
with the more barren thorn-scrub and aloe-covered hillsides
through which the big layout meanders. Putting surfaces are
firm, fast and perfect emphasized by dramatic bunkering which
allows for a variety of elusive pin positions. Water comes
into play on 5 holes. Most famously the par-five 9th is an
island green surrounded by waterfalls and artificial rocks.
DAY 11
Check out of Sun City and transfer to Johannesburg International
Airport for your connecting flight home. Please deposit your
hired car at the airport depot.
