either to the airport or the hotel on arrival).
Unwind at this enchanting Cape Dutch style hotel set in an
indigenous forest on the banks of a privately owned estuary
with breathtaking ocean views. This four star hotel has tastefully
decorated, en-suite rooms with satellite. This is a birdwatchers
paradise.
DAY 2
Play golf this morning at the platinum rated Wild Coast Sun
Golf Course.
This centerpiece of the Wild Coast Sun casino & leisure
resort was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and is a treat
for the uninitiated. Hole after hole offers sights and challenges
which catch the breath, for we have few venues as beautiful
and none more dramatic. Plunging, zig-zaging fairways, elevated
viewsite tees, a waterfall filled chasm and a meandering lagoon
are all part of the recipe. This 5 807m/ par 70 course offers
challenges within the scope of golfers of all standards. Golf
carts are compulsory and included in the rate.
DAY 3
Check out of The Estuary Hotel and transfer to The Selborne
Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate for your 2 night stay on a B &
B basis.
Play golf today at the Selborne Golf Club.
Dubbed the "Augusta" of South Africa, it uses the
natural topography to good effect with water coming into play
on 13 holes.
DAY 4
Play golf this morning at the gold rated San Lameer.
This course opened in 1992 and was designed by Peter Matkovich.
The layout winds through pristine coastal flora and tastefully
constructed villas, its fairways clad in a strain of cynoden
called Sahara, a grass which provides an excellent playing
surface and which complements the large, undulating Country
Club-grassed greens. There is certainly an interesting blend
of holes on this tight, compact layout, all memorable and
all capable of frustrating the player who throws caution to
the wind. The 5 834 m / par 70 course has dense bush and an
abundance of water but offers the golfer a pleasing experience.
DAY 5
Check out of Selborne and transfer to the Midlands for your
2 nights stay at Granny Mouse's Country House on a B &
B basis.
Venture through the Midlands Meander: Southern Africa's favourite
arts and crafts, pubs and restaurants route.
DAY 6
Play golf this morning at the silver rated Sakabula Country
Estate.
Nestling in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, Sakabula Country Estate
is a unique combination of agricultural smallholdings and
a golfing estate. It is easily accessible and came into being
after 12 lush farms were amalgamated. The par 73 layout is
an interesting combination of holes. A good quality country
course with stunning views of the Drakensberg mountains, the
water features and stands of trees demand one's full attention
while playing.
DAY 7
Check out of Granny Mouse's Country House and transfer yourself
to the Durban North Coast where you will be staying in Ballito
at the luxurious Zimbali Lodge for 3 nights on a B & B
basis.
Zimbali Lodge is a luxurious 5* boutique hotel cradled in
the pristine and protected Zimbali estate of stunningly beautiful
lakes, wetlands and sub-tropical forests. Circled by the magnificent
18 hole golf course and enjoying spectacular views, Zimbali
lodge epitomizes elegance and opulence. The luxurious bedrooms
are of African- classical architecture each symbolize traditional
values imbued with sophistication and style. Each air-conditioned
en-suite, balconied room also enjoys a dedicated and personal
butler service.
DAY 8
Play golf today at the prestigious platinum rated Zimbali
Country Club.
Designed by Tom Weiskopf, the layout is a subtle blend of
the classic and contemporary and is complemented by its unspoilt
sub-tropical coastal surroundings. The layout includes both
an open "links-like" feel on the opening holes,
with some of the last holes sweeping through forest and across
wetlands, giving off a "coastal parkland" feel.
It is 6524 metres and a par 72 course. Golf carts are compulsory
and included in the rate.
At Zimbali Lodge, enjoy a game of tennis; splash in the pool;
be pampered in the beauty salon or browse through the logo
shop. The Zimbali Forest Estate is nature's own wilderness
and home to a variety of wildlife.
DAY 9
Play golf this morning at the platinum rated Durban Country
Club.Length: 6104 m; Par 72. A mere 35 minute drive from Zimbali
Lodge, this platinum rated golf course is situated north of
the city centre with views over the Indian ocean. Its pedigree
is unmatched: it has hosted more SA Open Championships than
any other courses and is the only course to routinely appear
in various ranking of the world's top 100. Durban CC is very
compact with the premium being on accuracy. Dense tropical
scrub lines the fairways as well as the severely undulating,
dunelike terrain which serves to seclude the holes offering
the golfer tranquility. The course offers golf year round
with the winter months being best. Short "character"
par 4's are offset by more demanding two-shotters. The par-5
3rd hole is among the finest worldwide.
DAY 10
Check out of Zimbali Lodge and travel North into the Hluluwe
area to one of Africa's greatest destinations, Phinda Private
Game Reserve. You will be staying at the outstanding Phinda
Forest Lodge for 3 nights on a fully inclusive basis.
Phinda Private Game Reserve is situated in one of Africa's
most ecologically diverse regions and borders on the Greater
St Lucia Wetland Park, a world heritage site. The 15 000ha
reserve comprises of 7 distinct habitats, including the unique
sand forest.
DAY 11 & 12
Enjoy the activities and facilities available to you at Phinda.
Experience an early morning or late afternoon game drive through
the reserve; go canoeing or rather opt for the river cruise.
I would also highly recommend a guided day visit to the beach
for some snorkeling or swimming with the dolphins - definitely
an experience never to be forgotten and a really fantastic
way to end you fabulous trip.
